Candlemas Dessert Crepes

On February 2, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple. Because this is a mouthful, most people just call it Candlemas - a day for blessing the light and celebrating the light of the world come into his holy temple!

In France, Candlemas is also known as “Crepe Day.” This tradition is said to have originated with Pope Gelasius I in the 5th century when he distributed pancakes to the pilgrims who arrived in Rome for Candlemas. Rolled up crepes also look like candles and, when unrolled, the round, golden crepes look like the Sun – a reminder that Jesus is the light of the world! Perhaps enjoy savory crepes for dinner tonight or sweet crepes for dessert!
