St. Michael’s Blackberry Cobbler

On September 29, we celebrate the Feast of Holy Michael and All Angels! This feast’s story is drawn primarily from Revelation 12 wherein Michael and his angels battle Satan and throw him out of heaven and down to earth.

As the story goes, when Michael threw Satan down to earth, he landed in a thorny blackberry patch. Satan cursed the fruit, stamping and spitting on it, making the berries bitter. As such, September 29 is the last day of the year for Christians to “safely” enjoy blackberries.

It’s customary on this day to enjoy blackberry pastries and deserts, make blackberry jam, and make a goose glazed with blackberry. If you’re looking for a simple recipe mostly made with ingredients you probably already have on hand, then this Blackberry Cobbler will be perfect for you!
